Workshop to enhance Vietnamese tourism professional’s competitiveness to attract more Korean travelers

- ASEAN-Korea Centre to hold Tourism Capacity Building Workshop (15 Sep., Hoi An, Vietnam)  -

Hoi An, Vietnam - The ASEAN-Korea Centre (Secretary General Kim Young-sun) will organize the ASEAN-Korea Tourism Capacity Building Workshop under the theme of “Free and Independent Travelers (FITs) for Cultural Heritage Destination” on 15 September 2017 in Hoi An, Vietnam. Jointly organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of Vietnam as well as the Quang Nam Tourism Department, the Workshop aims to strengthen the capacity of local tourism professionals in promoting Hoi An as a representative cultural heritage destination and developing tailor-made tourism products and services to Korean travelers.

Kim Young-sun, Secretary General of the ASEAN-Korea Centre noted that, “Hoi An has attracted an increasing number of Korean tourists annually, and is one of the favorite destinations for free and independent travelers looking for historic or natural adventures. Hoi An, designated as the UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999, is a well-preserved ancient port city with over a 1,000 ancient houses, more than 50 pagodas and temples, and eco-tourism sites. Although Hoi An is already one of the most favorite destinations for Korean tourists, it still has much potential to grow as a cultural heritage destination. I hope this Workshop will contribute to promoting a sustainable tourism development in Hoi An and exchange of knowledges, experiences, and know-how among tourism professionals of Korea and Vietnam.”

In the Opening Ceremony, Secretary General Kim Young-sun and Mr. Ngo Hoai Chung, vice chairman of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) are expected to deliver remarks. In the special session, a Vice-Director of the Hoi An Centre for Cultural Heritage Management and Preservation will give briefing on the overview on Hoi An Ancient Town. Also, Korean tourism experts will give lectures to the local tourism professionals from private and public sectors on the themes of ‘Promoting Sustainable Tourism in Hoi An as a Cultural Heritage Destination’, ‘Marketing Strategies for Hoi An Tourism in Korea’, ‘Korean Culture: Insights on Korean Tourists.’ In order to deepen knowledge of the participants and facilitate the exchange of ideas, panel discussion, Q&A, and network reception will also take place. As part of the Workshop Program, the Korean tourism experts will visit My Son Sanctuary and the Ancient Town in Hoi An to analyze potentials, strengths, and provide an on-site consultation. In addition, in order to share experiences, strategies, and know-how in a sustainable tourism, roundtable discussion among Korean speakers and policy-makers from both public and private sector will be held on 14 September.

The ASEAN-Korea Centre has organized the ASEAN-Korea Tourism Capacity Building Workshop with an aim to strengthen competitiveness of the tourism industries of ASEAN with a view to better targeting and attracting the Korean tourists. The theme of the Workshop is chosen based on the needs and requests of the respective countries. In line with the Visit ASEASN@50: Golden Celebration Campaign as well as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development, the Workshop focusing on cultural heritage and sustainable tourism will be held back to back in Cambodia and Vietnam on 12 and 15 September 2017 respectively.
