On 6 February 2018, the ASEAN-Korea Tourism Capacity-Building Workshop was held in Vang Vieng, together with the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism (MICT) of Lao PDR. Under the theme, ‘Transformation towards Sustainable Tourism in Vang Vieng,’ the Workshop was organized to strengthen the capacity of tourism professionals in Lao PDR as well as to support the development of tourism industry, helping to provide demand-driven tourism products and services to Korean travelers.

The Workshop sessions delivered by Korean and Lao experts were themed ‘Promoting Vang Vieng as a Sustainable Tourism Destination,’ ‘Marketing Strategies for Vang Vieng Tourism in Korea,’ and ‘Patterns of Korean Tourists Flow: Insights on Korean Tourists.’ Approximately 100 tourism professionals from both private and public sector attended the Workshop to better understand the characteristics and needs of Korean tourists and their changing trends through lectures, so that Vang Vieng could be appealed to a larger Korean tourist population.
