Jointly hosted with the International Youth Centre (IYC) of Malaysia, the ASEAN-Korea Centre organized the Malaysia Program of the 2017 ASEAN-Korea Youth Network Workshop during 8-12 July in Melaka, Putrajaya, and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
20 Korean students who were chosen as Youth Ambassadors to play a bridging role between participants from ASEAN and Korea, as well as 20 ASEAN students engaged in activities related to the theme such as tree-planting in Melaka, visit to the Melaka World Solar Valley, and cultural experiences and city exploration in support of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture (MOTAC) of Malaysia.
Participants presented a ‘City Project Proposal’ that is feasible to overcome various issues in existing cities and come up with new ideas in line with environmentally sustainable cities. Proposals were evaluated and awarded in the Closing Ceremony.
In addition, on the last day of the program, the participating youth was given an opportunity to meet Yu Hyun-seok, Ambassador of the ROK to Malaysia, for an in-depth conversation on visions of ASEAN and ASEAN-Korea relations.
The Workshop offered a special opportunity for the ASEAN and Korean youth to learn the issue of environmentally sustainable cities via a variety of activities, as well as to forge a long-lasting friendship.
