On 27 August 2018, the ASEAN-Korea Tourism Capacity-Building Workshop was held in Melaka, together with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (MOTAC) of Malaysia. Under the theme, ‘Promoting Melaka as an Attractive Cultural Heritage Destination,’ the Workshop was organized to strengthen the capacity of tourism professionals in Melaka as well as to support the development of tourism industry, helping to sustain unique cultural value of the city and provide consumer-oriented services to Korean travelers.
The Workshop sessions delivered by Korean and Malaysian experts were themed ‘The Changing Landscape of Travel: the rise of FITs,’ ‘Melaka, a World Heritage: Significance, Preservation, and Promotion’ ‘Development Strategy for Improved Tourism Business Operation,’ ‘Fair and Sustainable Tourism Business Practices for Korean Tourists.’ Approximately 140 tourism professionals from both private and public sector attended the Workshop to better understand the characteristics and needs of Korean tourists and their changing trends through lectures, so that Melaka could be appealed to a larger Korean tourist population.
