On 9 February 2018, the ASEAN-Korea Tourism Capacity-Building Workshop was held in Bagan, together with Ministry of Hotels and Tourism (MOHT) of Myanmar. Under the theme of ‘Promoting Bagan as a Sustainable Cultural Heritage Tourism Destination”, the Workshop was organized to support the development of Bagan tourism industry as well as to strengthen competitiveness of cultural heritage tourism in Bagan, with a view to better targeting and attracting the Korean tourists.

The Workshop sessions delivered by Korean and Myanmar experts were themed ‘Overview of Myanmar – Korea Relations in Tourism’, ‘Promoting Bagan as a Sustainable Tourism Destination’, and ‘Marketing Strategies for Bagan Tourism in Korea’. Approximately 100 participants comprised of tourism professionals from both private and public sectors attended the Workshop to understand the characteristics and needs of Korean tourists and importance of development of cultural heritage tourism, so that Bagan could be a Sustainable Cultural Heritage Tourism Destination.
