On 1 July 2019, 30 youths from the Ilmin International Relations Institute of Korea University paid a visit to the ASEAN-Korea Centre.
The welcoming remarks were delivered by H.E. Lee Hyuk, Secretary General of ASEAN-Korea Centre, where he briefly gave an overview of the importance of ASEAN-Korea relations, and how there was a need to give greater recognition and importance to some of the shared issues between Korea and ASEAN countries.
Mme. Yoo Jin-sook then gave an informative briefing on the Centre’s activities and ASEAN-Korea relations, which was subsequently followed by a Q&A roundtable session led by ASEAN officials seconded to the Centre. The officials consisted of Mme. Khaing, Head of Culture and Tourism Unit, Mme. Joelyartini, Deputy Head of Development Planning & General Affairs, and Mr. Phan The Thang, Deputy Head of Information and Data Unit, from ASEAN Member States of Myanmar, Indonesia and Vietnam respectively. The students asked interesting questions, such as the concept of ‘ASEAN Unity and Identity’, and how decisions were made with regards to its organizational structure.
The visit then concluded with a group photo session with the university students and the Centre’s directors.
The ASEAN Hall of ASEAN-Korea Centre conducts the youth visit program with the aim of raising the awareness of ASEAN and ASEAN-Korea partnership among youths from primary school to university level.
