On 15 September 2017, the ASEAN-Korea Tourism Capacity Building Workshop was held in Hoi An, along with the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, and Quang Nam Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Under the theme, ‘Attracting FITs to Hoi An as a Cultural Heritage Destination’, the Workshop was organized to strengthen the capacity of Vietnamese tourism professionals as well as to support the development of Vietnamese cultural heritage tourism industry, helping to provide demand-driven tourism products and services to Korean travelers.

The Workshop sessions delivered by Korean experts were themed ‘Promoting Sustainable Tourism in Hoi An as a Cultural Heritage Destination’, ‘Marketing Strategies for Hoi An Tourism in Korea’ and ‘Korean Culture: Insights on Korean Tourists’. Approximately 80 participants from both the private and public sectors attended the Workshop to better understand the characteristics and needs of Korean tourists and their changing trends through lectures, so that Hoi An could appeal to a larger Korean tourist population.
