The ASEAN-Korea Centre jointly organized ‘ASEAN Homestay Program’ with Ministry of Tourism and Culture of Malaysia from 28 December 2015 through 4 January 2016 in the State of Selangor, Malaysia. 

While staying with the foster families in rural part of Malaysia, 20 Korean university students participated in various activities. 

Participating students experienced various activities; local cultures and lifestyle experience, Malaysian culinary experience, bicycle tour around the homestay village, cottage industry experience, Soursop tree planting and environmental conservation activities, voluntary clean-up of the surrounding homestay area, engagement with policy makers from the Ministry of Tourism and Culture of Malaysia, tour of facilities and exhibition in the Malaysia Tourism Centre, Firefly park tour in the State of Selangor, and visit to Carey Island. 

Each team was given assignments to complete based on their experience through the program, which include developing new, creative, and implementable ideas to enhance tourist experience at the homestay. 

Also, participants disseminate photos and videos from the program via their own SNS channels, which can further increase awareness of community-based tourism in ASEAN.
