On 24 August 2018, the ASEAN-Korea Tourism Capacity-Building Workshop was held in Palawan, together with the Philippine Department of Tourism (PDOT). Under the theme, ‘Discovering Palawan as an Attractive Natural Heritage Destination,’ the Workshop was organized to strengthen the capacity of tourism professionals in Palawan as well as to support the development of tourism industry, helping to provide demand-driven tourism products and services to Korean travelers.

The Workshop sessions delivered by Korean and Philippines experts were themed ‘The Changing Landscape of Travel: the rise of FITs,’ ‘Sustainable Tourism Development Using & Preserving UNESCO Natural Heritage,’ ‘Accommodation Development Strategy in Palawan,’ ‘Fair and Sustainable Tourism Business Practices for Korean Tourists.’ Approximately 170 tourism professionals from both private and public sector attended the Workshop to better understand the characteristics and needs of Korean tourists and their changing trends through lectures, so that Palawan could be appealed to a larger Korean tourist population.
