CULTURE & TOURISM Hall B, COEX, Seoul [COMPLETED] 2017.06.01 ~ 2017.06.04
The ASEAN Culinary Festival 2017, hosted by the ASEAN-Korea Centre with the support of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Korea, was a key contributor to spreading the word among Koreans about the favorite dishes of 10 ASEAN Member States. Held in conjunction with 32nd Korea World Travel Fair 2017, the Festival ran from June 1 to 4 at Hall B of COEX. The Festival was organized to commemorate the ASEAN-Korea Cultural Exchange Year in 2017 and the Visit ASEAN Year 2017 (Visit ASEAN@50: Golden Celebration). The Festival introduced 20 popular dishes and coffee/tea of ASEAN countries. Also, the visitors were also given the opportunity to experience ASEAN culture through the Barista Shows and ASEAN performances.
The Opening Ceremony included the toque and badge ceremony (a toque is a chef’s signature white headgear), the Live Cooking Show demonstrated by Ms. Joyce L. Sandoval, Director of the Mama Sita Foundation, and the Barista Show presented by Mr. Hwang Ho-rim, the coffee master in Korea.
During the Barista Shows, Mr. Hwang introduced the country’s unique variations of the ASEAN coffee and demonstrated how to make coffee.
The ASEAN Culinary Festival 2017 was visited by more than 4,000 people and drew enthusiastic support from the 10 ASEAN embassies in Seoul and National Tourism Organizations. The Festival presented a memorable time to the visitors and enable them to better understand the ASEAN and its culinary tourism attractions.
