‘ASEAN-Korea Trade and Investment Roundtable 2022’ to deliberate the RCEP Agreement and business prospects between ASEAN & Korea

The ASEAN-Korea Centre (Secretary General Kim Hae-yong), Korea Institute for International and Economic Policy (KIEP), and Korea JoongAng Daily will host the second ‘ASEAN-Korea Trade and Investment Roundtable 2022’ on April 20th under the theme of Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and the Business Prospects between ASEAN-Korea. Adhering to the current social distancing measures, the event will be live streamed through the ASEAN-Korea Centre’s YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/akcsns) from 14:00 (KST).

 

As RCEP entered into force this year, prospects for increased trade among its member countries, comprising of 30% of global GDP, have been much anticipated. The Roundtable aims to delve into the practical aspects and key benefits of RCEP, with Keynote Presentations and Discussions centered towards Trade in Goods (TIG), Rules of Origin (ROO), Customs Procedures and Trade Facilitation (CPTF), Electronic Commerce, etc. These topics will be conveyed through the viewpoints of Keynote Presenters (ASEAN Secretariat and KIEP) and Panelists (relevant Ministries, institute, and business organization) from ASEAN and Korea. During the Keynote sessions, Ms. Anna Robeniol, Advisor to the Secretary-General of ASEAN and the Deputy Secretary-General for the ASEAN Economic Community of the ASEAN Secretariat and Dr. Oh Soo Hyun, Associate Research Fellow of Trade Agreement Team of KIEP will deliver ASEAN-Korea trade and investment figures, major chapters of RCEP, and potential benefits and future implications.

 

Secretary General Kim Hae-yong, noted that “RCEP’s implementation brings high hopes for its member countries, and is expected to bring benefits through tariff elimination, expansion of production networks, job creation, etc.”. In light of this, he hopes that “the discussions will not only deliver informative insights, but also translate into immediate benefits for businesspeople of ASEAN and Korea, thereby contributing to ASEAN-Korea partnership as a whole”.
