Lee Hyuk, Secretary General of the ASEAN-Korea Centre, said, "Last year, 7.5 million Korean travelers, accounting for over one third of the country's entire outbound tourists, visited 10 ASEAN Member States. ASEAN became the most popular travel destination for Koreans with its divine nature and unique culture. We need to upgrade our partnership that goes beyond simply attracting Korean visitors to the region and achieve growth in both quality and quantity, as well as sustainable development of the ASEAN tourism industry. In this regard, the two upcoming events will focus on meeting practical needs and key agenda of ASEAN, while enhancing win-win cooperation with Korea. The Tourism Investment Seminar will contribute to expanding tourism infrastructure of ASEAN which is in dire need, and to providing investment opportunities for Korean companies. On the other hand, the Tourism Promotional Pavilion will diversify and enrich the experience of Korean tourists in ASEAN by promoting 'gastronomy tourism,' which is a key tourism agenda of ASEAN."

On 8 June, the 'ASEAN-Korea Tourism Investment Seminar' will be held under the theme of "Tourism Investment Partnership for a Sustainable Future." The Seminar will introduce tourism investment environment and opportunities of each ASEAN Member State, share a successful case of a Myanmar hotel project by the CEO of Daewoo Amara, and hold one-on-one business meetings between potential Korean investors and ASEAN Member States' tourism representatives from public and private sectors. In addition, various tips to travel ASEAN and gifts will be provided through such events as ASEAN Snack Drawing, ASEAN Quiz, and ASEAN Travel Mobile Application Download Event.

Gastronomy tourism is the exploration of food for the purpose of tourism. The survey conducted by the World Travel Organization (UNWTO) in 2017 revealed that gastronomy was placed as the third important motive for travelers to visit a tourist destination, along with culture and nature. In this regard, ASEAN Tourism Ministers have adopted the 'Joint Declaration on Gastronomy Tourism' during the 21st Meeting of ASEAN Tourism Ministers in January 2017 in Chiang Mai, Thailand. In line with this, all ASEAN Member States strive to develop gastronomy as a medium to promote their respective countries as an attractive tourist destination and raise awareness of individual history, society, and culture.
