Seoul, Korea - The ASEAN Korea Centre (Secretary General Lee Hyuk) and the Korea Institute of Design Promotion (KIDP) will co-organize the Asia Design Material Exhibition to showcase design products from the 10 ASEAN Member States at ‘Design Korea Festival 2020’, which will be held online from 19 November to 18 December.

During the month-long festival, ASEAN’s design materials and products will be displayed via VR on the official website of the Design Korea Festival (https://dkf.kidp.or.kr/). Promotion videos of the participating companies will be also uploaded on the Centre’s Youtube channel (http://www.youtube.com/akcsns) for businesses and designers who have interests in the ASEAN design.

The Exhibition will feature a variety of design materials in ASEAN ranging from the ones made with traditional materials such as silk or rattan to products manufactured from unique sources such as rice husk or recycled rubber. Online visitors can also gain a glimpse of the current developmental stages of design industries in ASEAN countries, as the exhibition will have a wide selection of products from crystal decorations to LED lightbulbs. Mr. Budiman Ong from the Indonesian design company ONG CEN KUANG explains in his promotional video, “Trends in Indonesia are very much mirroring global trends. As the market develops and a new generation is appreciating high-quality design products, I am sure that the Indonesian design industry has brighter prospects”.

Lee Hyuk, Secretary General of the ASEAN-Korea Centre, noted that “The ASEAN region is increasingly committed to developing its design industry, recognizing the innovative and creative nature of the sector. Many have already set up dedicated organizations for design and are working to develop the sector as one of the new growth engines of the region’s economy. Against this backdrop, the ASEAN-Korea Centre initiated various programs to enhance ASEAN-Korea partnership in the design industry including the Asia Design Material Exhibition as well as the ‘ASEAN-Korea Excellent Design Award’ scheduled for 24 November.”
