The ASEAN-Korea Centre (Secretary General Lee Hyuk) is organizing the ‘2019 ASEAN-Korea Youth Academic Workshop’ on 6-16 January 2020. The Workshop will be joined by 14 winners of the ‘2019 ASEAN-Korea Academic Essay Contest’ which was co-organized by the ASEAN-Korea Centre and ASEAN University Network from June-October 2019.

Participants of the Workshop will first visit Viet Nam, this year’s Chair of ASEAN from January 6 to 11, and then will travel to Seoul and Busan, the host city of the ASEAN-ROK Commemorative Summit from January 12 to 16. Throughout the Workshop, participants will listen to lectures as well as present their essays and engage in discussions with experts from government agencies, universities and think-tanks in the two regions. Also, the students will visit industrial sites of Vietnam, one of the fast-growing members of ASEAN and also Korea’s largest trading partner among the 10 ASEAN Member States. Students will also have opportunities to broaden their understanding of Vietnam and ASEAN through visits to cultural heritages.

Lee Hyuk, Secretary General of the ASEAN-Korea Centre said “following the success of the 2019 ASEAN-ROK Commemorative Summit and the first Mekong-ROK Summit, ASEAN and Korea are now advancing together into a new era of partnership. In shaping the future community of ASEAN and Korea, the role of the youths is more important than ever. In this regard, the ASEAN-Korea Academic Essay Contest organized by the ASEAN-Korea Centre is a valuable program that promotes studies on ASEAN-Korea relations and contributes to nurturing the young minds of ASEAN and Korea to lead a more sustainable and forward-looking partnership into the future.
