The ASEAN-Korea Media Forum to bring the ASEAN Wave to Korea

Seoul, Republic of Korea - The ASEAN-Korea Centre (Secretary General Lee Hyuk) will organize the ASEAN-Korea Media Forum on 24 April at Lotte Hotel Seoul, Korea, togetherwith the Korea Herald and Maeil Business Newspaper. The Forum will be held under the theme of “ASEAN and Korean Waves” and it is expected to bring over 30 high-level representatives from the leading media organizations in ASEAN and Korea, as well as the government,academia, and business communities. The Forum will discuss ways for socio-cultural exchanges between ASEAN and Korea and the roles of the media to facilitate future-oriented ASEAN-Korea relations.
Secretary General Lee Hyuk noted that, “Korean Wave has served as a firm foundationfor the robust ASEAN-Korea partnership over the decades. This year, marking the 30th Anniversary of the ASEAN-Korea Dialogue Relations, the Centre now seeks to go beyond ‘one-way’ Korean Wave and bring ‘two-way’ ASEAN-Korean Waves through the activesocio-cultural exchanges between ASEAN and Korea. This Forum will be the first of its kind where some 30 representatives from the ASEAN and Korean media to get together to explore greater partnership for promoting ASEAN-Korea exchanges. The ASEAN-Korea Centrewill continue to work with media stakeholders in bringing the peoples of the two regions closer and foster their mutual understanding.”
During the Opening Ceremony, ASEAN-Korea Centre Secretary General Lee Hyuk, KoreaHerald CEO & Publisher Kwon Choong-won, Malaysian Ambassador to Korea Dato’ Mohd Ashri Muda and Executive Director of 2019 ASEAN-ROK Commemorative Summit Preparatory Office Suh Jeong-in will deliver remarks. The Forum will be composed of largely two sessions.The first session, under the theme of ‘Korean Wave in ASEAN: Successful Past and Sustainable Future,’ will examine the success case of Korean Wave in ASEAN and offer suggestions for its sustainable development in the future. The second session, titled ‘ASEANWave in Korea: ASEAN-Korea Two-way Cultural Exchanges,’ will explore ways to boost closer cultural exchanges between ASEAN and Korea, thus bringing the ASEAN Wave to Korea.
The ASEAN-Korea Media Forum is a kick-off event of the festivities that the Centreis planning throughout this year that marks the 30th Anniversary of ASEAN-Korea Relations and the 10th Anniversary of its establishment. Under the overarching theme “My ASEAN,” the Centre will host a wide array of colorful events includingthe ASEAN Week in June, the ASEAN Train in October, and the ASEAN-Korea Export-Import Fair in November, offering unique opportunities for ASEAN and Korean people to better understand and feel closer to one another.
