- Official Launch of the Council of ASEAN Professors in Korea at the 2019 ASEAN-Korea Academic Conference -

Seoul, Korea – The ASEAN-Korea Centre (Secretary General Lee Hyuk) will organize the 2019 ASEAN-Korea Academic Conference on 28 August at ASEAN Hall of the Centre in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of ASEAN-Korea Dialogue Relations and the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the ASEAN-Korea Center. Under the theme of ‘Innovation, Technology and Creativity in ASEAN-Korea Higher Education,’ the Conference will be an occasion for ASEAN and Korean scholars and educators to share the leading trends and experience of e-Learning and Higher Education as well as to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation in this area.

Beginning with a keynote speech by Dr. Baik Sung-gi (former President of POSTECH), educators and scholars from ASEAN and Korea will exchange views on the subjects of 1) value and impact of e-Learning and Higher Education 2) innovation, technology and creativity in classrooms, and 3) prospects of ASEAN-Korea collaboration in Higher Education.

Also, the Conference will be celebrating the official inauguration of the Council of ASEAN Professors in Korea (CAPK) which has been established with the support of the ASEAN-Korea Center. Over the past years, the Center provided platforms for ASEAN professors to actively engage in networking through diverse programs, including research seminars. With the official launch of CAPK, the council is expected to further expand its network of ASEAN professors in Korea, and act as a bridge between ASEAN and Korean educators in promoting ASEAN-Korea educational cooperation.

Lee Hyuk, Secretary General of the ASEAN-Korea Centre said, “The launch of the Council of ASEAN Professors in Korea will not only allow the ASEAN professors to more effectively communicate and amongst themselves, but also facilitate cooperation with various organizations in Korea including the government and academia”. He continued to point out that “CAPK, through its active work, is expected to raise awareness of ASEAN in Korea, as well as to enhance people-to-people connectivity, which is one of the main objectives of the New Southern Policy”.

The Conference, jointly organized with the Ministry of Education and Korea Education and Research Information Service (KERIS), is open to anyone who is interested. Registration is available online at the official website of the ASEAN-Korea Centre, and a lucky draw will be held for pre-registered participants.
