- An all-in-one booklet on major statistics on ASEAN-Korea relations including impacts of COVID-19 -
- Includes figures on population, economy, employment, trade, investment, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges -
Seoul, Korea - The ASEAN-Korea Centre (Secretary General Lee Hyuk) published the 2020 ASEAN & Korea in Figures on 15 March 2021. The publication includes some 65 socio-economic figures on ASEAN Member States and Korea, including those in the areas of population, economy, employment, trade, investment, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.
This year, a separate chapter on the “Impact of COVID-19 on ASEAN Economies and ASEAN-Korea Relations” has been added to highlight the changes induced by the pandemic. The said chapter illustrates the impact of COVID-19 through a range of statistics including basic figures?number of cumulative COVID-19 cases, change in GDP growth rate, and change in trade volume, etc.-and those that show direct impact of the virus?policy response by each country, shift in online buying behavior, COVID-19 related cooperation between ASEAN and Korea, etc.
Lee Hyuk, Secretary General of the ASEAN-Korea Centre noted that, “ASEAN and Korea once again joined their efforts to overcome this unprecedented crisis, thereby strengthening their partnership. I hope the 2020 ASEAN & Korea in Figures, a comprehensive publication on various socio-economic indices of 10 ASEAN Member States, Korea, and ASEAN-Korea relations, will serve as a useful material to deepen mutual understanding of the two regions. Specifically, I hope the readers can gain insight on transition to a ‘new normal’ and cooperation between ASEAN and Korea through the newly added chapter on the impact of COVID-19”.
The ASEAN-Korea Centre has been publishing the statistical booklet every year, ever since its inauguration in 2009. 2020 ASEAN & Korea in Figures can be downloaded on the Centre’s website (http://www.aseankorea.org).
