ASEAN-Korea Centre to share experiences for water management in Bangkok

- Government officials and private sector representatives from Mekong countries and Korea gather for a seminar on water management and Mekong-Korea investment and market research missions (December 1-2. Bangkok, Thailand) -


 

Bangkok, Thailand - ASEAN-Korea Centre (Secretary-General Kim Hae-yong) in collaboration with Thailand Board of Investment and the Korea-Mekong Water Resources Management Collaborative Research Center will organize a two-day seminar on water management in Bangkok, Thailand on December 1 and 2.

 

Aimed towards providing a platform to facilitate knowledge-sharing among stakeholders on sustainable water management, the seminar invites the Korea-Mekong Water Resources Management Collaborative Research Center, the K-water Research Institute, five water management-related companies from Korea, as well as relevant government officials and private sector representatives from five Mekong countries (Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand, and Viet Nam). Additionally, the program will also include a site visit to ‘Bang Sue Environmental Education and Conservation Center’ and a business networking session for water-related companies from both Korea and Mekong countries. The programs are expected to provide an arena for sharing best practices and policies on sustainable water resource management, to introduce investment opportunities between Mekong and Korea water management industries, as well as to establish stronger networks through regional cooperation.

 

The seminar which will be held on December 1 under the title ‘Seminar on Sustainable Water Management in Mekong River Basin’ will discuss ways for Mekong countries and Korea to seek economic cooperation while also considering the preservation of natural resources in the Mekong River basin. In addition to the keynote speech on ‘Water Governance: International cooperation in Mekong River Basin’ by Mr. Brad Arsenault, Resilient Ecosystems Team Lead at USAID, the seminar will also hear presentations by Dr. Park Sang-young, Director of Korea-Mekong Water Resources Management Collaborative Research Center, and Dr. Jang Su-hyung, team leader of K-water Research Institute on opportunities for Korea-Mekong cooperation in water sector and digital transformation experiences for water resources management in Korea. In addition, Mekong Institute and Thailand Board of Investment will also deliver lectures respectively on ‘Mekong regional framework: Mutual recognition of issues in sustainable water management’ and ‘Opportunities for Investment: Ensuring sustainable water resource development in Thailand’. Lastly, government officials from both regions will also share their respective policies on water resource management, while representatives from selected private companies will present on related technologies and their future projects.

 

On December 2, the participants will have the chance to visit ‘Bang Sue Environmental Education and Conservation Center’ for a site-inspection and participate in a networking session to seek investment opportunities and technological cooperation.

 

The ASEAN-Korea Centre has been conducting the investment and market research missions since 2009, with an aim to explore new investment opportunities for ASEAN and to increase cooperation between ASEAN and Korea in various industries.
