Tourism Workshop to be held at the UNESCO World Heritage City of Luang Prabang

- ASEAN-Korea Centre to organize ´ASEAN-Korea Tourism Capacity Building Workshop 2023´ on April 20 in Luang Prabang, Lao PDR -

- Co-organized with the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism of Lao PDR, Representatives from Korea Tourism Organization, Hanyang University Tourism Department, and hospitality tech startup ONDA to participate as speakers -


The ASEAN-Korea Centre (Secretary General Kim Hae-yong) will hold the ´ASEAN-Korea Tourism Capacity Building Workshop´ in Luang Prabang, Lao PDR on April 20. The workshop, jointly organized with the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism of Lao PDR, will take place for the first time in an offline format since the outbreak of COVID-19 under the theme of “Trends and Outlook of the Korean Outbound Tourism Market after COVID-19”

*The ASEAN-Korea Centre has been organizing the “ASEAN-Korea Tourism Capacity Building Workshop’ in ASEAN member states since 2009 with the objective to enhance tourism competitiveness of ASEAN and further develop the capacity of the ASEAN tourism sector.


The ASEAN-Korea Tourism Capacity Building Workshop aims to discuss approaches to develop sustainable tourism products to bolster the Laos tourism industry, which has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as to enhance understanding on digital marketing strategies and tourism products to entice Korean tourists. Representatives from the Korea Tourism Organization, Hanyang University Tourism Department, and hospitality tech startup ONDA will participate as speakers to present the travel trends of Koreans, sustainable tourism development, and digital marketing strategies. The speakers will also introduce successful case studies of digital tourism marketing and private sector cooperations that can be applicable to the tourism industry in Lao PDR.


Secretary General Kim Hae-yong of the ASEAN-Korea Centre stated that “As tourism revitalizes after COVID-19, 1.5 million tourists are expected to visit Luang Prabang, the UNESCO world heritage city, this year. It is with great expectations that this workshop can highlight once again the beauty of this region and bolster cooperation between Korea and Lao PDR in the tourism sector.”
