Korea and Mekong countries to seek a closer business cooperation in Lao PDR

- ASEAN-Korea Centre to dispatch a business mission to Lao PDR (17-20 Oct.) -

Vientiane, Lao PDR - The ASEAN-Korea Centre (Secretary General Kim Young-sun) will dispatch a business mission to Vientiane, Lao PDR on 17-20 October 2017 as part of the 5th Mekong-Republic of Korea Business Forum, which will be jointly organized by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea and Lao PDR. Composed of representatives from 20 Korean SMEs in tourism, agriculture, food, and renewable energy, the delegates of the mission will be taking part in business discussions and networking sessions together with their counterparts from Mekong countries.

Kim Young-sun, Secretary General of the ASEAN-Korea Centre noted that, “Mekong countries have become a new growth engine of the world economy, showing a strong annual growth rate of 5-7%. For ASEAN, the progress of this region is imperative to narrow the development gap among its member states and enhance economic integration. In this regard, the ASEAN-Korea Centre has stepped up its efforts to support capacity-building of Mekong countries in the fields of e-commerce and sustainable tourism, and strengthen Mekong-Korea business cooperation. I hope this occasion would serve as a platform for SMEs of the two regions to build a closer business partnership.”

During the four-day-long program, the delegates will have one-on-one business meeting with companies from 5 Mekong countries, and visit Vientiane Industry and Trade Area (VITA Park) as well as local companies and organizations related to the sectors of tourism, agriculture, food, and renewable energy. Furthermore, an opportunity to meet Korean companies that have successfully invested in Lao PDR and learn about doing business in Lao PDR and other Mekong countries will be offered to them.
