Seoul, Korea - The ASEAN-Korea Centre (Secretary General Kim Young-sun) will organize the ASEAN Trade Fair 2017 from 25 to 28 October 2017 at COEX, Seoul, Korea. Held under the title of “Taste the Happiness!”, the Fair will invite 100 ASEAN food and beverage companies, 10 each from the 10 ASEAN Member State to showcase a wide selection of their products and explore business opportunities with Korean partners.

Kim Young-sun, Secretary General of the ASEAN-Korea Centre noted that, “There is a growing interest among the Korean consumers and buyers in unique and high-quality food and beverage products from ASEAN. Despite the demand, a variety of ASEAN products have not been introduced to the Korean market yet. I hope the ASEAN Trade Fair will offer a platform not only for the Korean buyers to explore business opportunities with ASEAN partners but also for the general public to enjoy and better understand ASEAN through food.”

Products to be exhibited include: products made with Kalamansi, a type of lime from the Philippines, which is popular for detox in Korea; processed goods such as jam, juice, and snacks made with tropical fruits like Mango, Durian, Papaya, and Pineapple; coconut oil, snacks, and juice that are good for diet; packaged easy-to-cook meals such as Tom Yam Kung and Pho; organic coffees such as Robusta and Arabica; and unique and exotic seasonings. Korean buyers who are interested in ASEAN food and beverage products will have the opportunity to meet with ASEAN companies during the exhibition period. Last year, over 1,500 meetings were conducted and contracts worth over 2 million USD were signed. This year, promising ASEAN companies that were carefully selected by the government of each ASEAN Member State will join the event.

In conjunction with the Fair, a trade facilitation seminar for the representatives of the participating ASEAN companies will be held on 24 October. The seminar aims to enable the representatives to gain knowledge on the latest development of Korean food industry and build business network with Korean counterparts. At the seminar, Korean experts will give presentations on the themes of distribution system, sourcing trend, safety control policy for imported foods, technology trends, and regulations for food packaging in Korea. The representatives will, in turn, give briefings on recent trends in the food industries of their respective countries to Korean companies. Furthermore, there is a scheduled visit to Daesang Cheon-an Food Plant and CJ Freshway I-cheon Distribution Factory.

The ASEAN Trade Fair 2017 will be held as part of the Food Week Korea 2017, the largest international food exhibition in Korea. The ASEAN-Korea Centre has been participating in the exhibition since 2009 with an aim to introduce a wide range of ASEAN competitive products to Korean market.
