ASEAN-Korea Centre calls youth to envision future of ASEAN-Korea partnership

Seoul, Korea - he ASEAN-Korea Centre (Secretary General Kim Hae-yong) offers university students of ASEAN and Korea the opportunity to share their insights on promoting ASEAN-Korea partnership in the 2021 ASEAN-Korea Academic Essay Contest.

 

The Contest invites students to present their ideas in academic writing on one of the three given themes: 1) The role of the youth in promoting mutual understanding between ASEAN and Korea towards a sustainable and future-oriented ASEAN-Korea partnership; 2) Strengthening ASEAN-Korea partnership in overcoming COVID-19 and building back better for greater prosperity in the region; or 3) Strengthening ASEAN-Korea cooperation in mitigating the impact of climate change and promoting sustainable development in the Mekong region. The Contest calls for papers until 14 November, and essays can be submitted via online (http://bit.do/2021akessay).

 

Students are encouraged to seek research advice from their professors and can work individually or in teams (up to 2 students) to submit their essay. This year’s contest rewards include cash prizes (1st Prize ? KRW 2,500,000; 2nd Prize (2 teams) KRW 1,500,000 each; 3rd Prize (2 teams) KRW 1,000,000 each; Special Recognition Prize (up to 5 teams) KRW 500,000 each). In addition, opportunities for publication and presentation at an academic webinar will also be provided. Prominent scholars across ASEAN and Korea will take part in the evaluation committee.

 

Held for the sixth consecutive year, the ASEAN-Korea Academic Essay Contest has been a distinctive platform in fostering young researchers to study ASEAN-Korea partnership, and which has received over 700 entries and produced 58 winners. This year’s Contest is organized in cooperation with the Korean Association of Southeast Asian Studies, Seoul National University Asia Center and Universiti Brunei Darussalam, and is supported by the ASEAN Secretariat, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, ASEAN University Network, and the ASEAN Foundation.
