ASEAN-Korea Centre to encourage youths to explore 30 years of ASEAN-Korea partnership

Seoul, Korea - The ASEAN-Korea Centre is organizing the ‘4th ASEAN-Korea Academic Essay Contest’ together with the ASEAN University Network (AUN) from 16 June to 1 September. The Contest, which invites undergraduate and graduate students living in ASEAN and Korea, is a signature academic contest of the Centre started in 2016 that aims to raise awareness of the young generation in two regions on ASEAN-Korea partnership.
In commemoration of the 30th Anniversary of the ASEAN-Korea Dialogue Relations, the Contest is being held under four different topics that review the past 30 years of ASEAN-Korea partnership and its future: ASEAN-Korea Partnership in the Indo-Pacific era, Beyond ASEAN Connectivity, Toward a Reciprocal Cultural Exchanges: ASEAN Wave in Korea, and 30 Years of ASEAN-Korea Dialogue Partnership. Students can take part in the Contest by submitting a 10-page essay online (http://bit.do/2019akessay) before the deadline, 1 September.
Lee Hyuk, Secretary General of the ASEAN-Korea Centre, said, “Marking its 30th Anniversary, ASEAN-Korea Dialogue Relations continues to move forward, especially under the New Southern Policy. I hope many students from ASEAN and Korea participate in this Contest and present new and creative ideas about the future of the ASEAN-Korea relations.”
A total of 15 winners (10 ASEAN and 5 Korean students) will be given an opportunity to present and discuss their essays and ideas in Korea and Viet Nam (ASEAN Chair country in 2020). Selected papers will also be published in an essay series of the ASEAN-Korea Centre titled ‘Young Perspectives: The Future of ASEAN-Korea Partnership.’ This year, the Contest is being supported by the ASEAN Secretariat, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, Pukyoung National University and Diplomatic Academy of Viet Nam.
