ASEAN-Korea Youth Innovation Forum to cultivate entrepreneurship among youth
- ASEAN-Korea Centre to inspire 400 ASEAN and Korean youth at the Forum (12 Nov, Seoul) -
Seoul, Korea – The ASEAN-Korea Centre (Secretary General Lee Hyuk), together with the Science and Technology Policy Institute (STEPI), the Seoul Metropolitan Government, and the Korea Entrepreneurship Foundation, will hold the ASEAN-Korea Youth Innovation Forum on 12 November 2018 at Yongsan Dragon City, Seoul, Korea. The Forum, which will be held in conjunction with the Global Entrepreneurship Week Korea (GEW) 2018, is expected to inspire 400 ASEAN and Korean university students to cultivate their entrepreneurial mindsets and to provide opportunities for 11 ASEAN and Korean young startups, who are the finalists from the 2018 ASEAN-Korea Startup Idea Competition, to pitch their creative and innovative ideas.
Lee Hyuk, Secretary General of the ASEAN-Korea Centre noted, “ASEAN, home to 8 ASEAN unicorns, has become a global hub for entrepreneurship. The digital-savvy and innovative youth of the region are key drivers of this booming industry. To reap the benefits of the fast-changing digital transformation, it is pivotal for the future leaders of ASEAN and Korea to be equipped with entrepreneurial mindsets. I hope this Forum will provide a platform for ASEAN and Korean youth to navigate through opportunities in the field of entrepreneurship through discussions and exchange of insights with other leading young entrepreneurs.”
In the opening ceremony of the Forum, Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon will give a remark along with Secretary General Lee Hyuk, STEPI President Cho Hwang-hee, and Korea Entrepreneurship Foundation Chairman Hwang Cheol-ju. The ASEAN-Korea Young Innovators Talk will feature speeches by successful young entrepreneurs from ASEAN and Korea about making better lives through innovation. CEO of Innopresso Cho Eunhyung Jeff from Korea, who created “Mokibo,” a touchpad embedded keyboard, will share his story about minimizing inconvenience in our daily lives through creative innovation, while Co-Founder of Senior and Youth (SAY) Quan Quan Nguyen from Vietnam will present his experiences in establishing the online language-learning edutech start-up. In the business plan pitching session, 11 finalists out of 279 submissions from the 2018 ASEAN-Korea Startup Idea Competition, which was held for the first time this year as a preliminary program, will be given opportunities to present their ideas to venture capitalists and their friends from ASEAN and Korea. Final winners will be awarded at the awarding ceremony and granted USD 1,000 (1st Place), USD 800 (2nd Place), and USD 500 (3rd Place), respectively. On 13 November, a mentoring session will take place at Seoul Global Startup Center and Hanwha Dreamplus Center to provide all finalists with in-depth feedback to help them further develop their business plans.
Since 2014, the Forum has served as the one and only venue in Korea that encourages entrepreneurship among ASEAN and Korean students. This year’s Forum is open to the general public who are interested in fostering entrepreneurship and establishing startups in ASEAN and Korea. Online registration is available at the official websites of the ASEAN-Korea Centre (http://www.aseankorea.org/eng) or GEW Korea 2018 (http://www.gewkorea.org) by 10 November 2018.
