ASEAN Trade Fair to showcase quality seafood products in Korea

- The ASEAN-Korea Centre to hold the ASEAN Trade Fair on Seafood in conjunctionwith ‘Seoul International Seafood Show 2019’ (22-24 April, Hall B, COEX, Seoul) -

Seoul, Korea - The ASEAN-Korea Centre (Secretary General Lee Hyuk) will organize the 2019 ASEAN Trade Fair on Seafood in conjunction with ‘Seoul International Seafood Show’ from 22 to 24 April 2019 at COEX in Seoul. The Fair is designed to meet the strong demand for seafoodin Korea and to provide a venue for ASEAN exporters to explore business opportunities with Korean buyers. The Centre will introduce quality seafood products of 34 companies from 5 ASEAN countries, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnamat the ‘ASEAN Pavilion’ booth at the exhibition during which will hold one-on-one business meetings and a seminar on ASEAN-Korea Free Trade Agreement and customs clearance in Korea.

Lee Hyuk, Secretary General of the ASEAN-Korea Centre, said, “According to the recent research from theFood and Agricultural Organization (FAO), Korea ranked No.1 in terms of seafood consumption per capita with an average of 58.4kg per person. Domestic demandof seafood in Korea is expected to increase. However, as the country is experiencing a downtrend in marine stocks, it is likely that the reliance on external sources on seafood supply in Korea will continue to rise. Against this backdrop, I hope that the 2019ASEAN Trade Fair on Seafood will provide a platform for participating ASEAN seafood companies to successfully enter the Korean market by enhancing their understanding of the Korean seafood industry. The fair will also help Korean buyers to find dependableseafood suppliers.”

At the ‘ASEAN Pavilion’ booth, a total of 34 companies from 5 ASEAN countries will showcase a collection of diverseseafood products such as shrimp, squid, octopus, herring, etc., in a variety of forms such as frozen food, processed food, canned food, and sauce. During the 3 days of exhibition, one-on-one business meetings will be conducted with Korean and internationalbuyers to seek business opportunities in Korea. And a seminar on ASEAN-Korea FTA will also be organized by the Korea Customs Service on 23 April for ASEAN participating companies to offer practical information including benefits and regulations of customsclearance in relation to FTA.

The ASEAN-Korea Centre has been hosting the ASEAN Trade Fair since 2009 with the aim of co-prosperity of ASEAN andKorea. This year, the Centre will hold four exhibitions including Seoul International Seafood Show (April), Seoul International Home Meal Replacement Show (May), Korea International Furniture & Interior Fair (August), and Global Game Exhibition (November).
