- The highest decision-making body to approve the Centre’s commemorative programs for the 30th Anniversary of ASEAN-Korea Relations -

Seoul, Republic of Korea – The ASEAN-Korea Centre (Secretary General Lee Hyuk), marking its 10th Anniversary of establishment, will hold the 11th Annual Council Meeting from 18 to 19 February at Lotte Hotel, Seoul, Korea. The Council, composed of high-ranking officials and Ambassadors representing the respective governments of the 10 ASEAN Member States and Korea, is the supreme decision-making body that supervises the projects of the ASEAN-Korea Centre.

At this year’s meeting, the Council will first evaluate the programs undertaken by the ASEAN-Korea Centre in 2018. Secondly, the Meeting will approve the proposed plans for 2019 that will be geared towards celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the ASEAN-Korea relations and the organization’s 10th Anniversary. A dinner reception will be organized on 18 February where approximately 150 distinguished guests from the diplomatic corps, media, academia, and business people are expected to attend. Secretary General Lee Hyuk will deliver welcoming remarks and Korean Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Hyun and Thai Director-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Suriya Chindawongse will give congratulatory remarks.

As the ASEAN-ROK Commemorative Summit is expected to be held in Korea this year, the Centre will organize a variety of special programs throughout the year. The ‘ASEAN-Korea Media Forum’ will kick off the festivities in April. The Forum will bring together the high-level representatives from the influential news organizations, government, and academia in ASEAN and Korea to share their insights on how ASEAN and Korea can facilitate two-way cultural exchanges. In June, the Centre will host ‘ASEAN Week’ to introduce diverse aspects of ASEAN featuring cultural performance, tourism pavilion, and lecture series. In October, ‘ASEAN Train’ will invite people from both ASEAN and Korea to take a nation-wide train tour together for a week. The program will showcase culture, history and industrial development of major cities in Korea, which will foster mutual understanding of participants from ASEAN and Korea.
