Lao PDR and Korea seek measures to cooperate in Sustainable Tourism Development

- My Real Trip and Green Discovery to share experiences of sustainable tourism -
Vientiane, Lao PDR – The ASEAN-Korea Centre(Secretary General Lee Hyuk) and the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism of Lao PDR willco-organize the 「ASEAN-Korea Tourism Capacity Building Workshop」to seek cooperative measures under the theme of “Growing Green: Environmentpreservation and marketing strategies for tourism Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs)”,on 6 September inCrowne Plaza, Vientiane, Lao PDR. Around 60 tourism SMEswill explore ways for the strategic development of the tourism industry within environmental and socio-cultural sustainability. The Workshop will consist ofpresentations, business meetings, and technical visits to eco-tourism destinations in Lao PDR.
On 5th, technical visits to the major tourism assets of Lao PDR arranged by the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism and business meetings will take place.On 6th,regional specialists and tourism and marketing experts from My Real Trip and Green DiscoveryLaos will give presentations on △the issues of sustainable tourism for SMEs, △best cases of SME practicing in ecotourism field, △strategies to target Korean tourists.
Especially, specialists from My Real Trip, a leading travel platform in Korea, and Green Discovery, a travel agency for ecotourismin Lao PDR, will share their experiences ofmaintaining environmental and socio-cultural sustainability while thriving in the industry. Furthermore, My Real Tripaims to discoverattractive tourism products of the SMEs in Lao PDR through the business meetings and introduce them to the Korean tourists.
The influx of Korean tourists to Lao PDR has profoundly increased since a number ofKorean televisionshows, including tvN’s “Youth Over Flowers,” JTBC’s “Carefree Travelers” and SBS’s “Same Bed, Different Dreams 2: You are My Destiny” featured Lao PDR in their program.Such cultural exchanges kindled local interests to Korea in Lao PDR as well. Against this backdrop, the Centre hopes the Workshop to serve as an opportunity to expand the tourism exchanges and regional cooperation between Lao PDR and Korea.
